DOT Physical Exams
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requires truck, van, bus or other commercial vehicle drivers to have a physical exam every two years to remain compliant. Although some employers require their employees to be examined more frequently to adhere to individual policies. We provide convenient DOT-compliant physical examinations to help you meet DOT requirements—and keep your employees on the road.
Please note: School bus drivers for Montgomery County, Maryland, however, must have their license renewed yearly.
Information for Employees
Here’s what you can expect during your DOT Physical:
- We will check your height, weight, blood pressure, vision and hearing.
- One of our doctors will conduct a thorough physical examination to determine your physical ability to drive.
- You will be asked to give us a urine specimen.
- Your employer may request that you have a urine drug screen at the time of your exam.
If you are on medication for a chronic disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease, you will need to bring a note from your regular family doctor stating that your condition is stable, that you are being evaluated on a regular basis, and that you are considered medically capable of driving a commercial vehicle.
We will return your paperwork and license to you at the time of your visit, or mail it to your employer, whichever is applicable.
Things to Remember
- If you wear eyeglasses, please bring them with you.
- You will need to bring a note from your doctor if you take medication for a chronic disease.
- You may be asked to submit to a urine drug screen at the time of your exam.
- Your paperwork and license will be returned to you in hand or mailed to your employer, as appropriate.
